Mirenda
Mom to Baby Miscarried June 12th, 2009
and Jada Sophia
Stillborn July 21st, 2010
Hillsboro, Ohio

Me and my Husband have been married for 8 years and we had been trying to have a child for 9 years. After a year of trying on our own I knew something was wrong so I went to my OBGYN and was told I was still young and that it will happen. I was 21 at the time. So I figured it was all in my head and for years I never went back to a doctor.

Having a baby was never easy for me.  I had my first miscarriage at 12 weeks in September 2001.  My second miscarriage at 5 weeks was in March of 2005.  My third and last miscarriage at 7 weeks was march of 2007.  In January of 2008 I was pregnant again and I thought for sure I would miscarry again.

Amber
Mom to David Allen
Stillborn January 11th, 2010
Gilmer, Texas

My name is Amber Watts and I am the mother to a beautiful Angel Baby named David Allen.  My Husband, Bill and I have been together for 13 wonderful years. When we met, I was 18 and he was 32. Even with the age difference, we knew we were meant to be together. He had been married before and had 3 kids with his first wife. After their third child, he had a vasectomy. So when we met 6 years later, I knew he couldn't have kids. At 18 I didn't care. Back then I thought I would never want kids! After a few years of being together the ol' maternal clock started ticking and there was nothing I wanted more than to be a mom! So we started searching for doctors that did vas-reversals.

My husband, Billy, and I were married on June 21, 2008. The first day of summer. One year later to the day, we decided that it was time to start to grow our family. In September, I found myself in the bathroom, staring with disbelief at the home pregnancy test. There were two lines. Two lines! When I told Billy, it was still with disbelief, not wanting to allow myself to get my hopes up too much. We decided to do a second one, you know, in case the first was a fluke. The result was the same, but Billy insisted I go get one of the tests that had the words on them. "Pregnant" Twice. Four pregnancy tests, all positive. Can't get much more sure than that!

Mom to Gavin Hunter

Goshen, Indiana

I guess my story starts in 2005 when I meet my husband Eddie. I already had a son when I meet him and we had our 2nd son in 2006. In March of 2010 we got married at the church that we attend. We had been talking for a year about wanting to have another baby but wanted to wait till after we got married so we started trying after the wedding. It took a couple months but sure an enough a couple days after my birthday I took a test and it was positive. We were so happy that we were having another little Stephenson growing inside me. We told all the family and close friends but wanted to wait till after the first 12 weeks to tell our boys just in case I would miscarry, we didn't want to get there hopes up just to let them down. But after the 12 weeks came and went we thought we were safe so we told them. They were so excited that they were going to have a new brother or sister.

Susan
Mom to Matthew Kristopher
Stillborn on July 27th, 2002 at 38 weeks
East Northport, New York

Life is not without loss. Everyone experiences it in some form during their life. How do you move on from your darkest days, when time stands still but life goes on around you? How do you pick up the shattered pieces and move forward, to rebuild your life, rise above the pain, and perhaps come out stronger and more determined than before? How do you go on to do something positive and help others in a similar situation, while helping yourself to heal? There will be light at the end of your long dark tunnel. You will get there eventually, maybe without even realizing it, and maybe by constantly working your way out, one little step at a time. This is my story of loss, grief, healing, and passion found.

Hope
Mom of Graicen Edward
Born Still on June 2, 2008
Overland Park, KS
I will never forget the morning that I found out that I was pregnant with Graicen. My husband and I had been married for 2 years and we were both getting ready to graduate from college. He was working nights and I had noticed that for about 3 nights in a row I had gotten up in the middle of the night to use the restroom, which was very odd because I never had done that before. I knew that we hadn’t been very careful and so I knew there was a chance that I could be pregnant so the next day I bought a set of 2 pregnancy tests and decided that I would take one the next morning. That night I woke up at 2:00a.m. to use the restroom and decided I would take a test just because I had them there. Well those 2pink lines showed up immediately and I sat there on the toilet in shock. I couldn’t get to the phone quick enough to call my husband. When I screamed into the phone that I was pregnant, the other end went silent and then he actually realized what I had said and he just said “no way.” Well I waited up for him to get home and when he did we both laid there in silence holding each other with smiles on our faces from ear to ear. We decided that we would wait until I was 12 weeks along to tell everyone because we had a few friends who had just miscarried and we didn’t want to tell everyone and get them so excited only to have that feeling taken from us. Little did we know that our lives were going to be changed forever from this pregnancy?

Hannah
Mom to Everett Lee Miles Harris
Born into Heaven March 1st, 2009
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

On February 28th, 2009 (37 weeks pregnant) around 7:00 pm I began to feel contractions with my second child. My husband was working that night, so my daughter and I settled down to watch a movie, as I was not feeling very well. I was back and forth in the bathroom for hours, reading pregnancy books and I had ALL the labor symptoms listed in the book...YAY!!  My husband came home at 9pm. Excited that the baby could possibly join us that night, we called the doctor at 10:30pm, we thought labor was progressing. As I was on the phone with the doctor he was asking about contractions and timing them and I then realized that the contractions weren't going away...they were actually one BIG contraction. He told us to come on in to the hospital. We woke our daughter up and were planning on dropping her off at a friend's house but I could barely breath, huffing and puffing and serious pain but not the pain of labor. We called the friend and told her to come to the hospital.

In my mind, my life's plan was always to get married by 22, finish college, and start a family by 26 years old. Somehow, life had other plans for me. I learned I was pregnant in Feburary 2008, despite my absolute certainty that I wasn't pregnant. My then fiance (now my husband) and I were in the process of moving and the whole process was stressing me out. Plus I had already taken 2 tests and they had come out negative. Little did I know that I read both tests wrong. When my fiance made me take another test, he chose one that had the + sign instead of the two positive lines. As soon as I took the test, it lit up +. We were overcome with shock, happiness, and confusion. How did this happen? What were we going to do now? It wasn't until we were confirmed pregnant by our doctor that we told my fiance's parents and family. They were overjoyed. When I told my parents when I hit the 12 week mark, they were less enthused, but it didn't matter. At 16 weeks pregnant, my fiance and I got married. When we went in for our 20 week scan, we found out we were having the first boy in the family. We were so excited. My pregnancy was fantastic and uneventful. Other than the typical achy feet and being more and more uncomfortable as I got bigger, I loved being pregnant.

Valerie
Mom to Lorenzo LeÏŒn Garcia
Delivered Sleeping November 19th, 2009
Austin, Texas

My son was stillborn 11-19-2009.  I was 24 weeks when we found out we lost our 1st child.  My head understands what has happened, but my heart aches despite all the facts.  I'm not sure of all the emotions, or (sometimes) the lack of.  I do things I think will make me feel better, but sometimes I feel worse?!?!  Its very confusing.  OH, and I work for a Pediatric Group-a daily reminder of what isn't!!  This being my 1st pregnancy I had so many expectations, maybe too many???  The ONE thing though that NEVER crossed my mind was losing my baby!  NEVER in forever would I have thought I would have been sitting here now, with a box of tissue by my side, writing to complete strangers about the loss of MY child.  As a mother (I am a mother, right?) it never crossed my mind that I might lose my child before he ever took his first breath!  I worried about (not) eating hot dogs and sandwich meats, and (not) drinking sodas, along with all the scary things that can happen in the BIG world, but never ever EVER this!  Our loss was due to placental abruption.  After 24 weeks of blissful pregnancy, feeling fantastic, never sick-my life came to a screeching halt!  Oh, how I wish I could turn back the hands of time, but would the outcome have been any different-could it have been worse???

Amanda
Mom to Angel
Stillborn on May 18th, 2009
Elon, NC

My story starts in January 2009. That is when we found out we were pregnant. Our due date was October 8, 2009.  Friday, April 3, 2009 the day after my 4-year wedding anniversary. The day before I had my first trimester ultrasound screening. The ultrasound tech was really rough with my stomach. She pressed my belly really hard to try and make the baby move. Since I have Rheumatiod Arthritis, I was in a lot of pain and I called my doctors office to see if ther was anything that I could take that was stronger than Tylenol. My doctor called in Darvocet for me. I took it the day of April 3. That night I woke up at midnight to a puddle of blood in the bed, I was 13 weeks and 1 day pregnant. I was terrified because I knew that I had lost my little baby. I called the on call doctor and she said to report to the hospital as soon as possible because I was probably having a miscarriage. When we arrived at the hospital, because of my tipped uterus, they could not use the Doppler, they had to do an ultrasound and we found out that our little girl was okay. I remember thinking what a relief. The doctors told me that sometimes people just bleed when they are pregnant. (I still don't believe that) I left the hospital with the diagnosis of "Everything is fine, everything is good, everything is normal, don't worry."
