Jessica
Mother to Liam Ellis
Born and Died February 16th, 2011 at 7:35PM
Arlington, Virginia

Our story begins in October of 2010 when my fiance Jordan and I found out we were pregnant. We were excited, but also scared. This was our first pregnancy and we had no idea the amount of love we would experience for our baby. I had nausea a lot early in pregnancy and as we reached 15 weeks, my nausea subsided and I started to enjoy all aspects of my pregnancy. I felt so happy and full of life (literally). At around 16-17 weeks I started having some pain in my lower abdomen area but when I told my doctor and researched online, I was told it was round ligament pain and dismissed. It subsided slowly until it was gone.

I selected my OB based strictly on geography.  When I asked my general doctor for a referral, she knew of only one doctor in the area near my work.  I called the office and scheduled an appointment for infertility.  We had been trying for a year and a half with no success and I was ready to talk to someone who might be able to help.  Since I’m a teacher, I called at the beginning of my summer and they didn’t have any openings until the end of my summer.  However, one week before my appointment I took a pregnancy test and found out I was pregnant.  We were so excited, we’d been married almost five years and now we were going to be parents!  I called the office and changed my infertility appointment to a pregnancy confirmation appointment.

Sherri
Mother to Kristen Eva
Born November 19th, 2010, Left that same evening
Bellevue, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
I didn't know on that day that things were going to go horribly wrong. I knew that I was leaking a small bit of fluid, but maybe it wasn't fluid, maybe I was being overcautious. None the less, I called my Mother in Law to come look after Jenna, my two year old, while I ran to the hospital. I really didn't think anything was serious.. I was singing in the truck on the way into town for God's sake! I grabbed a bite before I went up to emergency... I was just going to make sure everything was alright.... It wasn't.

Mom to Hunter Joe

I can honestly say that the day that I lost Hunter was THE worst day I have ever had in my entire life!  No exaggerations.  I was mostly numb that day, due to pain meds and preparing for it for almost a week.

I was going for my anatomy appointment. I was soooo happy I was finding out what my babies were. I never thought in a million years they would say what they said. I NEVER KNEW ABOUT THIS. I was so upset that no one had ever told me this can happen.

Tabitha
Mother of Garrison Terrelle
Born Sleeping at 17 weeks 2 days
On December 26, 2010
St. Petersburg, Florida

I am Tabitha Shorter mother to Garrison Terrelle Shorter who was born sleeping December 26, 2010 with my nose and his father’s lips and mouth. Gary and I met the summer 2008 while I was teaching and coaching basketball in South Carolina and we talked a couple of times during the summer. Gary is professional photographer as well as a Networking Engineer so he always had a busy schedule. It was not until November 2008, that he just happened to call me as I was coming home from a basketball game which we had lost miserably. He had decided to end communication previously because we lived in two separate states. I lived in South Carolina and he lived in Georgia, but actually we were not that far away. So, when he called me he told me that he investigated the distance through Google maps and concluded that it was not that far.

My husband & I conceived Liam shortly after we were married. I was consumed with the desire to have a child once I met Greg. I had found forever. The one. And I wanted us to share our lives with a child. I couldn’t wait to pass on family traditions & take care of something that needed me. To nurture & love a baby. To raise a child.

Sydney
Mom to Claire Sandra
Born and Passed lovingly on October 28th, 2010
Tempe, Arizona

Claire’s story begins in the Summer of 2008 when I was first diagnosed with PCOS. My husband and I knew that having a child would require a bit more planning for us then for the average couple. We decided to begin the process of trying to conceive in the spring of 2010. We did not expect that we would be lucky enough to find ourselves pregnant within three months of trying to conceive. Our quick conception was a blessing!

Mother of Penelope Grace, Griffin James, and Rosalie May
Born November 17th, 2009
Somerville, MA

My husband, Brendan and I met when we were in high school.  We dated through college and got married in October of 2006.  The following December we decided it was time to expand our family of 2.  After a year of trying on our own, we turned to fertility treatments.  We were prepared for this because I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 23.  After a few cycles, we hit the jackpot!  There were 4 sacs, but only 3 had heartbeats.  We were pregnant with triplets!

Autumn
Mom to Nola Sophia
Born at 22 weeks
Grosse Point, Michigan

After celebrating our 1 year anniversary my husband and I were ecstatic to find out that we were pregnant! It was an easy pregnancy compared to what others had told me of their experiences. We were relieved that we were able to conceive in just one month since we didn’t know what to expect. I had very little morning sickness and on most days my complaint was that I didn’t “feel” pregnant.

I began my day on bed rest. I had been on bed rest for the previous two weeks due to my cervix shortening. At my formal ultrasound, when we found out we were having twin girls, we also discovered that my cervix was measuring 2.5cm. Not good!

Where do I begin. I have so many unhappy endings. Well, I guess I'll start at the beginning with my very first pregnancy.

On Christmas Eve 2002, I had a sneaking suspicion that I may be expecting, so I took a pregnancy test. To my surprise it was positive. I was so excited! 11 days later I was arguing with my boyfriend at the time and began have severe cramping and pain. There was no bleeding, so I decided to lay down for a while in hopes that the pain would subside. It got worse. I went to the ER and explained that I was about 6 weeks pregnant. Blood work was drawn and it confirmed that I was indeed pregnant, but when an ultrasound was performed, no embryo could be seen. It was immediately suspected that the pregnancy was ectopic and could not be saved. I was so heartbroken.

Kendra
Mom to Michael Andrew
Born and Passed November 13th, 2008
Tucson, Arizona

Ours is a story about both devastating infertility and heartbreaking infant loss.  After a painful ovarian cyst ruptured in December of 2006, I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis.  I was 28 years old and just couldn't believe why this was happening to us.  Over the next year-and-a-half, I went through a laparotomy surgery, several rounds of fertility meds (Clomid), and an intra-uterine insemination (IUI).  Unfortunately, nothing worked to help increase our chances of getting pregnant.  And so in June of 2008 we turned to in vitro fertilization (IVF).  Luckily, our first round resulted in a positive pregnancy test!  We were so excited, it seemed like our dreams were coming true and we were going to finally become a family after 9 years of marriage.

Mom to Landon and Gavin

Austin, Texas

It was March 2008 when we found out we were pregnant with our second child. We were so excited to give our two year old daughter Camryn a sibling. About 2 weeks later I went into my obstetrician’s office for a checkup because I had had a little bit of spotting earlier in the day. An ultrasound was performed in which we found out we were having twins! I was scared but overjoyed.

Alexander Michael, May 28th, 1997
Alisia Noelle, November 27th, 2009
and Gabriel Ryan, September 7th, 2010
Lilburn, Georgia

It all started the morning of July 27, 1996.  When I woke up, I noticed I was bleeding pretty heavily and then the pains started.  As I was laying in the back seat yelling in pain, I could hear my mom in the driver’s seat wishing that a cop would pull her over (she was speeding) so that we could get to the hospital faster than the 25 minutes it normally took.

Died August 30th, 2010 at 9:45 a.m.
Turpin, OK

When I was a little girl and people would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, my reply was always “A Mommy”.  Years later my answer is still the same, although I am no longer that innocent child who doesn’t know of all the injustices in the world.  For I was once a mother and I suppose in all accounts I still am, although I have no child to call me “Mommy”.  This is my story, my journey through infertility and the loss of my daughter, Evie.

Mom to Sydney Alexis, born at 20 weeks on February 10th, 2009
Fenton, MO

I always knew I wanted to be a mom.  When my husband Eric and I got married in 1998, we were 19 and 20 and he was still in college so we thought we would wait until he finished school to have a baby.  I had always had irregular cycles so I had a feeling it wouldn't be easy for me to get pregnant.  We both wanted to have four children, so we hoped that it wouldn't be too difficult for us to conceive.
