We were elated to find out we were pregnant after our first try in August of 2009. Our first ultrasound was scheduled when we should have been 6.5 weeks. Or, so we thought. The baby only measured 5 weeks, but all looked good. We were told our dates were probably off, even though I knew that wasn't possible. But, what did I know? I'd never had an ultrasound that early and maybe babies grew at different rates. We were told things were fine and to come back in 10 days.

The second scan showed the baby had grown, but the tech wouldn't tell us anything else. She told us my doctor would tell me the details. When I went in for my second routine pregnancy exam, my OB casually told me the baby died and we needed to schedule a D&C. I was shocked. I demanded another ultrasound. It confirmed our diagnosis. It was awful. I had my D&C when the baby should have been 8.5 weeks. I was told it would not happen again and that my body just wasn't ready to be pregnant again. We did not have the "products of conception" tested as it was "just a fluke.

Mom to Baby Boy lost July 26, 2007

July 2007, I had been on what I thought was my period for about 2 months. I didn't think much of it because I have irregular periods. One day I started cramping really bad. Shane called the ambulance and I was taken to the ER. To make a long story short I was pregnant, and having a miscarriage. They did a DNC and cleaned me out. I was devastated. I had never thought about becoming a mother before, but this changed the whole game. I had been pregnant- and didn't even get to have my baby! Life was NOT FAIR!

We found out we were expecting our first little one on Aug 1 2009. We were so excited. We had only been off the pill a short time and didn't expect it to happen so fast. We knew we wanted to start a family soon after our October 3, 2009 wedding so we were thrilled to be expecting even before that. From the minute we found out I was so in love with the life growing inside me. I just couldn't wait for him or her to arrive. Just a few weeks later I started having severe cramps and spotting and for some reason I just knew something was wrong. We headed to the ER where I was admitted and looked after in the labour and delivery ward. The next day our worst nightmare became a reality. They couldn't find a heartbeat or fetal pole on the ultrasound and my betas were dropping from the initial ones from earlier on. We lost our first little bean on Aug 20 2009 at 8 weeks 6 days. It truly felt as if the world was ending. Everything I had hoped and dreamed for was being ripped from us. We threw ourselves  into planning the rest of our wedding. It wasn't until after the wedding that we really started to grieve and process the loss. It took months and months of longs talks, lots of tears and some counseling to be able to face each day without complete and utter grief.

Mother of River
Miscarried on April 18th, 2010
Philadelphia, PA

This will ramble. A lot.

My pregnancy was oh-so-planned. We had been trying since the late summer of 2009. I practice the Fertility Awareness Method, which many people confuse with the Rhythm Method. Sooooo, not the same. FAM requires you to be in tune with your body. I did the morning basal temperatures, the charting, I got familiar with my cervical mucus and I peed on ovulation predictor kits. To some that may seem like too much. I think it's incredibly important and empowering to know how your body works.

Mom to Baby, miscarried at 8 weeks on January 4th, 2007
and Baby Boy, miscarried at 16 weeks on June 21st, 2010
Newton, AL

My first miscarriage was in Dec. 2007, only seven months after my first son, Jackson, was born. I went in for my first ultrasound the day after Christmas. My husband and I were very excited. The tech started the ultrasound and as soon as the baby came on the screen I knew something was not right.
