February 4th, 2011, born alive at 5:25 a.m., passed away at 7:00 a.m.
San Francisco, California

Dear Friends and Family and fellow survivors,

It is with unimaginable sadness I share the loss of both of our little girls,Tierney Faith Ibarra and Eden Hope Ibarra. I had a very uneventful five months of pregnancy until January 14th. I noticed a change with my discharge and a bit of blood and went to get "checked out". Within an hour our lives were flipped upside down when they told us that  I was dilated and they could see membrane. I had no signs of labor and was in complete shock.

We were only three months married when I saw the plus sign on the stick. It was joyful and frightening, but mostly pure elation.  Two months into our pregnancy we were at our first doctor's appointment and we were awe struck by the news...

My husband and I tried for a year on our own to become pregnant, after no success we turned to a fertility specialist.  I was diagnosed with Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).  In order to become pregnant I had to take Clomid, FSH injections and HCG injections in order to ovulate.  After 3 years of hormones and several miscarriages (more than I can count on two hands) we finally became pregnant with twins in June 2005.   We were excited and nervous at the same time.  Every couple of days I went for blood work to monitor my hormone levels.  The numbers kept doubling as they were supposed to.   Everything was going along as expected, each week that passed was a happy one.

After having one child I finally had convinced my husband to start trying for our second child in June of 2007. I have ovulation issues and have to be on Clomid to help us conceive. I was on Clomid with my first pregnancy and we were shocked that it only took us one cycle to get pregnant, so we expected the same with my second pregnancy.

After a year of emotional ups and downs, negative pregnancy tests, and fertility tests our struggle was over. Or so we thought. I woke up the morning of February 10th to a teeny bit of spotting. Suspecting my period was once again on it's way I called my dr's office to start yet another cycle of trying only to be told it could be implantation spotting and to take a test. After a lot of encouragement from my husband I finally took the test. I was so excited when I stepped out of the shower and saw two very dark lines. My husband was overjoyed when he heard me yelling for him and I announced it was positive. I called for our first appointment as soon as the dr office opened the next morning. The next 18 1/2 weeks were incredible even though I had morning sickness bad on account of having to get progesterone shots every week for the first 12 weeks. I enjoyed getting bigger and planning for this sweet miracle.

Mom to identical twin boys
Born and died May 31st, 2009 at 22 weeks 5 days
Marlborough, Massachusetts

My husband Matthew and I grew up a town away from each other. In fact, we were high school rivals. He was an identical twin, so I always heard about the twins or Matt & John the twins....being at the age of 14, 15 everyone had crushes on the twins.

It was March 2008 when we found out we were pregnant with our second child. We were so excited to give our two year old daughter Camryn a sibling. About 2 weeks later I went into my obstetrician’s office for a checkup because I had had a little bit of spotting earlier in the day. An ultrasound was performed in which we found out we were having twins! I was scared but overjoyed.

My husband and I married in December 2008. We were so excited to start our new life together and thrilled at the prospects of a happy life together. We had decided that we wanted to wait at least a year before having kids, then we'd see where we were at physically and financially and proceed from there.

Our story begins with the hands down, no comparison, happiest moment of my life.  I was 38 and my partner, Theresa was 45.  We had been together over 8 years and finally decided to try to start a family and then rode the infertility roller coaster that so many women endure.  We had been anxiously awaiting the call; at last the phone rang and it was our nurse confirming that my blood test was positive and I WAS PREGANT!  After talking with the nurse, my doctor came on the line and said, “You are SO pregnant!”  “There is probably more than one!” My numbers were very high.  Never in my life had I sobbed with such raw emotion – tears of pure joy!

My husband and I got married in Oct 2007.  We knew more than anything we wanted a family right away.  We also knew that we would probably have to get help to get that family.  For over two years we went through numerous IUI's and IVF cycles always ending in disappointment.  Then in Oct 2009 with our 3rd IVF cycle we got pregnant!  We couldn't believe it, finally we were going to start our family.  It quickly turned to disappointment again at our 7 week appt though as there was no heartbeat, so they gave it another week and still nothing, at 10 weeks we lost our first glimmer of hope of a family.  So we took a few months off and started again.  In March 2010, we went through our 4th IVF.  We got pregnant again and this time with TWINS and we saw two beautiful heartbeats!  It was love at first sight!  My husband and I were so excited, after so long of trying we were finally going to have our family and even better it would be with two babies!

Jeanie
Mom to twins, Chloe Danielle and Zoe Grace
Stillborn at 22 weeks on August 20th, 2007
Due to undiagnosed Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome
Frederick, Maryland

I was 39 years old, working full-time and trying to divide myself between two toddlers, two high school seniors and a full blown (and quite ugly) custody battle over my two elementary school aged daughters who had been kidnapped by their father (my ex) two years prior. My marriage wasn’t exactly the Rock of Gibraltar sort of relationship during that time and honestly having a baby wasn’t exactly in the forefront of my mind. But there I was. Pregnant. Again.

Twins Miscarried at 9 weeks 4 days on September 16th, 2010
Dayton, Ohio

In 2006, my husband and I found out that we were pregnant with our daughter -- we hadn't been trying and she was a complete surprise.  We actually had been in the midst of planning our wedding and I had mixed feelings about being pregnant.  Of course, after I held her in my arms, I fell in love and have never regretted her in anyway.

Carley Noel Smith, died on November 20th, 2009 at 18 1/2 weeks
Scottsburg, VA

My big story is my twins. I found out I was pregnant with the twins on August 10, 2009 my 2nd wedding anniversary. We were so happy and I was SO SCARED. Because of losing the baby the year before. I waited till I was almost 11 weeks before I went to the Dr for my first appointment just because I was scared and wanted to allow enough time for them to grow and be sure we saw a heart beat. Well I was nervous so bad, and my mom went with me. I closed my eyes and ears until the ultrasound tech tap me on my leg and told me to open my eyes and see my baby. There she was just jumping all around in her sac. But I could also see off to the side there was another sac and there was no movement and not really a shape of a baby. Sure enough I had lost another baby. But they told me that the other twin would be fine I would go through "Vanishing Twin Syndrome" and the other baby should be good.

September and October of 2009 were both very busy months for us. We had 2 weddings, 2 bridal showers, 2 Bachlorette parties, a baby shower, 2 birthday parties, a Halloween party...basically we were booked up for those 2 months solid. November 11th 2009 I started getting sick and was sick the rest of the week until Saturday and Sunday. Monday came around and I was sick again. On November 18th 2009 I just happened to think "Hmmm, when did I have a period last?" I couldn't remember at all so I decided to take a test just to be sure. It came back positive, but this time was different.
