We were elated to find out we were pregnant after our first try in August of 2009. Our first ultrasound was scheduled when we should have been 6.5 weeks. Or, so we thought. The baby only measured 5 weeks, but all looked good. We were told our dates were probably off, even though I knew that wasn't possible. But, what did I know? I'd never had an ultrasound that early and maybe babies grew at different rates. We were told things were fine and to come back in 10 days.

The second scan showed the baby had grown, but the tech wouldn't tell us anything else. She told us my doctor would tell me the details. When I went in for my second routine pregnancy exam, my OB casually told me the baby died and we needed to schedule a D&C. I was shocked. I demanded another ultrasound. It confirmed our diagnosis. It was awful. I had my D&C when the baby should have been 8.5 weeks. I was told it would not happen again and that my body just wasn't ready to be pregnant again. We did not have the "products of conception" tested as it was "just a fluke.

It is November and the rain has come again. My stomach has begun to bloat with a much-desired second child. The boxes of maternity clothes I wore while expecting my first have been dragged out of the dusty stacks in the garage. I’ve been feeling fairly well. Not as nauseated as with my first, when after every dinner I found myself in the bathroom. I’m proud to be starting to show. I love this part, where it becomes obvious that there’s a baby growing within me. I am a creature of comfort, and have been wearing a new pair of grey athletic pants with double pink stripes up the pant legs. When I go out, I look the part of “put-together-stay-at-home-mom,” but once at home I am quick to shed these classy garments, and cozy back into my comfy pants.

My husband and I will celebrate our 10 year anniversary in January. Our first year together we lived through 2 miscarriages. A missed miscarriage at 10 weeks in May, and another miscarriage in November at 6 weeks. We were worried that we would not be able to have children so we asked for tests to find out what was happening. I was diagnosed as having a MTHFR mutation and lupus anticoagulant disorder. We were told a daily shot of heparin should prevent any further problems. We were terrified to try again... so we waited, and then 4 years later and lots of needles in my belly, we had our first child. Sophia was born healthy and perfect after the longest 9 months I could imagine. Another 4 years and a switch to Lovenox, we had our second little girl, Polly.

From the time I was a child I always knew I wanted to be a mother. I married my husband Nate a month before my 27^th birthday and a year and a half later, I knew I wanted to try to have a baby. He was skeptical as he is almost five years younger than me. I told him he would never feel ready. In November 2009 I realized I had skipped my period. I got a bunch of negatives on tests and discovered I had only skipped my period because of going off birth control. In January I skipped it again but this time got a BFP (big fat positive)! I was shocked, texted my husband a pic and then had to explain to him what two lines meant (haha). I got a blood test and sure enough it confirmed the results. We told family and soon after that at around 5 weeks we told our church members and friends. I put a “Preggo” spaghetti can up as my Facebook picture and announced it there too because I was too excited to keep this joy a secret!

I met the love of my life at college and we were married 1994.  We had 2 beautiful daughters, one in 1998 and one in 1999.  After my second daughter was born, I suffered from  severe post partum depression, and we had to give up our home and move closer to family. It took about one year to recover from the depression. Within a few years, we were expecting again.
