Molly
Mother to Audrina Capri Williams
Born on June 23rd, 2010 and grew her wings an hour later
Edmund, OK

The past few months have been more than a crazy roller coaster ride. There are no words to express the pain/joy/hurt/happiness I have been through. I guess I am ready to share my story and I hope to bring others hope and peace. Losing a baby is one of the most devastating things any mother can go through. From the time that you see that test that says positive, you are a mother. But, my story is a little different...

After struggling for three years to have a baby, my husband and I turned to in-vitro fertilization (IVF).  It was our only chance at this and since I was told my egg quality wasn't really that good, my fertility doctor transferred three eggs and gave me a 60% chance of having one baby. Two weeks later I had my blood test. I was pregnant. With very high HCG levels. Possibly more than one baby. Two weeks later was the ultrasound. Triplets. We were shocked but really excited. I always wanted multiples.

Where do I begin to tell the story about one of "God's greatest gifts?" I know people may think I am crazy by saying this but this year I finally figured it out...God picks only the very special people to be parents of his "angels".  I am so sad yet honored that I got to carry her...So this is where my story begins.

On January 5th, 2010, at 10 weeks 2 days pregnant I went to the doctor for my first appointment. First we went over everything that would happen throughout the pregnancy such as when ultrasounds and blood work would be. After going over all of this, and my medical history, they led me to the ultrasound room. Everything was so exciting. I couldn’t wait to finally see my little nugget growing inside of me.  Part of me became concerned when the doctor got quiet, but I tried to dismiss it. When she told me that she couldn’t find a heart beat I was shocked and confused. “What does this mean?” I asked, tears welling in my eyes. She explained that I had had a miscarriage. For the first time I learned what a missed miscarriage was. I didn’t understand how that could happen. I thought that having a miscarriage meant you bled and lost the baby. I had no idea something could go wrong and the baby could die with little or no signs. “Her” heart had stopped beating and she had stopped growing at 9 weeks 1 day.

When I was a little girl and people would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, my reply was always “A Mommy”.  Years later my answer is still the same, although I am no longer that innocent child who doesn’t know of all the injustices in the world.  For I was once a mother and I suppose in all accounts I still am, although I have no child to call me “Mommy”.  This is my story, my journey through infertility and the loss of my daughter, Evie.

 Lacie
Mom to Jack Conover
Stillborn on September 6th, 2010
Collinsville, Oklahoma

Jack Conover was stillborn at 31 weeks on September 6, 2010. Would I have ever thought it would happen to me? I didn't. I had a perfect pregnancy. I was healthy, hardly ever uncomfortable and no complications. Jack was stillborn due to a true knot in his umbilical cord. He was perfect in every way. His skin was so pink, he had a head full of dark hair, and the biggest hands and feet you'd ever seen on something so tiny! Sometimes it's still hard to believe what happened.

~~~~~~~~~~~ psalm 126:5 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy
I met my husband Jay when we were teenagers in the youth group together. We went on our first date on my 16th birthday. We were married and had our first child Cayden, when we were 19 years old. Our very own conception that we were somehow invincible was quickly changed to what now? We have this kid, just finished high school, what have we done? We knew we loved each other very much and knew that the Lord was good and would provide us what we needed. Boy did he, and so much more then we could have ever asked for.
Mom to Berkley Elizabeth
July 17th, 2007-August 15th, 2007
Mustang, OK
After 4 years of marriage, my hubby and I decided that it was time to add a baby into the mix.  I went to my OBGYN, at the beginning of November 2006, to discuss trying to get pregnant and to get a clean bill of health.  I was told that it could take a few months and to not let it discourage me.  Hubby and I began trying immediately.  On December 12th, we got an early Christmas present we weren't quite expecting.  I went to my regular physician for some pain in my side.  Pregnancy hadn't even entered my mind at this point.  I was more concerned with possible kidney stones.  The nurse asked if I wanted a pregnancy test and I said sure but I didn't think it was really needed.  A few minutes later, my doctor came in, felt around on my stomach, asked me some questions, and then said the pregnancy test we gave you was positive.  Positive.  What did that actually mean?  At first, I couldn't comprehend what he was telling me and then it clicked.  I'M PREGNANT?  So soon?  I burst into tears because even though we were actively trying to get pregnant, I didn't not think it would happen so quickly.  I was sent for an emergency ultrasound since I was having pain on one specific side.  My doctor wanted to rule out ectopic pregnancy.  I was determined to be about 4 weeks since I couldn't remember my last menstrual period.  After 2 weeks of constant beta checking, I was told that my numbers were going up and that it didn't look like an ectopic pregnancy at all.  I was so relieved!
Tiki
Mother of Charlotte Ray
Stillborn at 36 weeks
June 11th, 2010
Oklahoma City, OK
My story begins on the morning of June 10th 2010. I was 36 weeks pregnant. I woke up very early around 5:30 noticing that Charlotte was not moving around, she was always an early mover. Once I started thinking about it, she didn't wake me up over night either. I got up, ate a muffin and drank some orange juice and still no movement. I woke David, my husband up and told him we needed to go to Labor and Delivery because Charlotte was not moving and we needed to hurry.
Once we got to the Hospital the nurse came in and hooked me up to the monitors and she couldn't find the heartbeat. She said she would check on the ultra sound machine just in case the baby was in a weird position; there was no heartbeat on the monitor. She went to get someone from radiology because their equipment is better. When she was out of the room I started sobbing. I told David, Charlotte was dead. He was hopeful and said "let's just wait until she brings the other machine in' I said 'she doesn't have to, I know she is dead. I know!" the nurse came back in the room and after looking for the heartbeat one last time she looked at me and said "I am sorry but your baby has died". Those words will never leave me, I think about that moment at least 20 times a day.
David called his parents and hearing him on the phone was heartbreaking. I overheard him talking; he told them he had some bad news and then said " Charlotte has died". He didn't say much else. They called my my sister and David's sister and brother-in-law. Everyone was on there way.
My doctor got there shortly after that. She came in with tears rolling down her face. I had just seen her 3 days before and everything seemed perfect. I told her that I wanted to have a c-section just to get it over with. She said she would respect my wishes but would not recommend it. She said the c-section is a major surgery and there is a risk of infection, all of my future children will have to be delivered by c-section and the recovery time is much longer. After some discussion with my husband we decided that I would deliver Charlotte the way I would want to if she were alive. So it was decided, I would be induced in the next couple of hours. They took me down to the room at the very end of the hall. I know now this was so I wouldn't be around any other women in labor or any crying babies.
They were going to start the induction with cytotec but realized I was already 2 centimeters dilated. They hooked me up to fluids and pitosin. They also took 20 vials of blood for testing. It took a few hours to get to 6 centimeters but only 45 minutes after that to get to 10. I had a couple of practice pushes and then the doctor came in. At this point my epidural was wearing off and I could feel a lot. I could feel the contractions. Charlotte was born about 45 minutes later at 12:05 am on the 11th of June. There were four of us in the room not including Charlotte. We were all in tears and my doctor kept telling me, this will not happen again. Our nurse took Charlotte to the warmer and wrapped her up. I took her and my world changed in that instant for the good and the bad. I have never felt love so intense and so fast. This was by far the proudest moment of my life. I held her and stared at her, I kissed her and told her how beautiful she was. David held her for a while and then our family came in and held her. She was 6 lbs. 6 oz. and 20 in. long with a head full of dark curly hair.
I was holding Charlotte and my blood pressure starting to drop. I was shaking my head back and forth. David's mom took Charlotte. David was asking me to say something and I tried but I couldn't, I was in shock. I remember at one point trying to say that I was scared. I honestly thought I was going to die. If it weren't for David I really don't know if I would have cared at that point what happened to me. The nurses gave me something in my IV and things started getting more clear and I could talk again. She was baptized shortly after that.
The first week we were home, David's parents and my sister were there. They did everything for us. The only place we went was the funeral home. If they weren't here I am not sure we would have eaten. David helped me so much that week. He didn't leave my side. I couldn't do anything by myself. He got me out of bed in the morning, stood right by the shower when I took one, he even had to help me in the bathroom. If it weren't for him I would have just given up that first week.
I know that as time passes this will get easier, but that a part of my heart is already in heaven waiting for me. Charlotte will always be missed and remembered in everything we do. That moment has forever changed me. There are so many things that I thought were important before but are so insignificant now. Charlotte's future siblings will always know they were not first and that their big sister is in Heaven. We love you Charlotte!
Danae
Mom of Bailey Danae
Born at 23 weeks on April 30th, 2010
Newcastle, OK
We have been trying to start a family since August 2006. We have been going through infertility treatments with a Reproductive Endocrinologist (RE) since July 2007. We had an early loss at 5 1/2 weeks in January 2008 and another early loss at 6-7 weeks in July 2008. We discovered a rather large septum on my uterus which I had surgery to correct in September 2008. We found out we were pregnant again, for the first time since my surgery, on December 17, 2009.
With this pregnancy, I worried a LOT in the beginning. We were at my RE's office every week from weeks 6-10. At 9 weeks, I had unexplained bleeding and was put on bed rest for 2 days. But, once we were out of the first trimester, I started to calm down a little. I felt much better once we made it through our 19 week anatomy scan, and found out we were having a girl! I finally was able to start enjoying my pregnancy.
But, on April 30, 2010, my world came crashing down...
On April 30, 2010 @ 12:30 a.m., I woke up with cramps. I honestly thought I was having gas. After passing some gas with no relief, I woke Adam @ 1:00 a.m., and told him I was cramping. He immediately got up because we were going to go the ER. Before we left, I decided to go the bathroom. At that point, I saw that I was bleeding. My heart sank and stomach fell. I knew 2nd trimester bleeding was not good.
The hospital is about 30 minutes away...we made it in 20. On the way to the hospital, I figured out that the cramps I was having were actually contractions. They were coming about 5 minutes apart.
When we arrived at the hospital and checked in, we were immediately rushed to Labor & Delivery. The nurses got me in a bed and checked me. They found I was already dilated, but didn't know how far, so they called the on-call Dr. who is part of my Dr.'s medical group. Dr. Waterman was there shortly after 2. She checked me, and found I was completely dilated and my water bag was bulging. They had already tipped me head-down, feet up so my water bag would stay in. At this point, Dr. Waterman told us that we would have to deliver, she just didn't know if we could do a vaginal delivery or if we would have to do a c-section. After doing an ultrasound, they found Bailey to be transverse (side-to-side) so an emergency c-section was all we could do. They asked me how aggressive we wanted to be, because Bailey's chances of survival were only 5-10 percent. I told them whatever it took.
By 3:00, we were in the operating room, and getting prepared to go. I had a spinal block done, and Adam came in, and was with me, and our precious baby girl Bailey Danae was born at 3:33 a.m. on April 30, 2010. She weighed 1 pound 4.8 ounces and was 12 inches long. Adam could see her, and he could see the monitors, and he told me she was breathing, so we had some hope. While they finished up with me, they took Adam back to the room where I would be staying. I was done with my c-section around 4:15 a.m. They took me to my room. When I reached my room, Adam was there, but shortly after, he was gone. A nurse had come to get him to take him to the NICU.
At the NICU, the Dr. tending to Bailey told Adam she wasn't responding to any medication or any assistance they were giving her. Adam had to make the decision to take her off of the ventilator, and since it wasn't helping, he did. I imagine this will probably be the hardest decision he will ever have had to make. After taking Bailey off of the ventilator, she was gone. She left this earth to become an angel at 4:27 a.m. on April 30, 2010. She was with us for almost an hour.
Adam had to come and tell me (and our parents) the most devastating news I have ever heard in my life. My daughter, my first born, my pride and joy, and a piece of my heart, was gone. I was absolutely crushed.
The NICU team prepared Bailey, and brought her into my room around 5:30 a.m. We got to hold her, take pictures of her, and be with her. She was the most beautiful baby in the entire world. She was tiny, precious, and beautiful, and she is ours. She had my lips, and her daddy's nose.
The NICU team also took pictures of Bailey and gave us some of the prints, and a CD with copies on them. They also gave us a memory box that includes the clothes, hat, and blanket she wore, her bed signage, her footprints, and her teddy bear.
Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep also sent a photographer to take pictures of Bailey on Saturday, May 1, 2010. She did a beautiful job on them, and I will cherish them forever.
Services for Bailey were on May 4, 2010. She is forever laid to rest at the foot of my grandmother's grave.
I will never forget this day. Some of the details may become fuzzy, but I will never forget what it feels like to love someone more than life itself. I will never forget what it feels like to know my baby died. I will never forget leaving the hospital with only a memory box, and flowers from friends and family, feeling absolutely ashamed.
Now, 2 1/2 months after Bailey's birth and death, we are trying again. We have hope that someday we will have the "take-home" baby we so want. We know my body failed her, either due to pre-term labor that couldn't be stopped, or an incompetent cervix. We are taking the precautions for both in future pregnancies.
Although it is under horrible circumstances that we have "met", I am thankful each and every day for my babyloss sisters. We are not alone.
