Gretchen
Mom to "Star" Baby
Lost on Mother's Day, May 9th, 2010
Folsom, California

I became an expectant mother on March 13th, 2010.  It was the happiest and most thrilling day of my life.  I lost my baby on Mother's Day, May 9th, 2010.  It was the saddest and most painful day of my life.

January 24th, 2011: Surprise! We found out we were expecting our second child. My husband and I were both very excited and we called our parents right away to share our news. I then called my doctor to schedule my first baby appointment. We were scheduled for February 22nd.

My husband and I were married in August of 2002. We wanted to start a family right away, so I never even started taking birth control. We ended up struggling with unexplained infertility for two years we finally became pregnant. Sadie was born in July 2005. We were elated! She was perfect and everything we had hoped for. When she was 10 months old, I discovered that I was pregnant with her sister, Evie. I was shocked that it had happened so fast this time. I guess our fertility issues had resolved themselves! Evie was born in February 2007. Another perfect pregnancy and another perfect little girl.

And Multiple Miscarriages
Pasadena, Maryland

My story began about 5 years ago, my husband and I were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Abby and in hopes to have another baby one day.  Our hopes were to have 3 children.  When my daughter was around 1, we found out I was pregnant.  We are overjoyed, happy, and excited.  Then on February 14th I had my 1st miscarriage at 8 weeks pregnant.

Miscarried at 8 weeks
Redding, California

A week before Christmas, I was on the internet looking at baby names. My husband asked suspiciously, “You’re not adopting any more pets, are you?” “No,” I replied, “I think I’m pregnant.” He laughed. I was on the pill and hadn’t missed a period or experienced any signs of pregnancy, so it certainly didn’t seem likely. Despite never being pregnant before, I insisted that I ‘felt’ pregnant. Three days later I took a test and saw a positive.

I am 33 years old and my husband and I have been trying to conceive our first child since January 2009. For a long time I thought I would never be married.  I have mild cerebral palsy which affects my left side and I was always aware that this might put some guys off.  But my biggest obstacle to meeting someone was myself - I didn't have much confidence.

On May 1st, 2010 my husband (Erik) and I found out we were expecting for the second time. Immediately, we told our 2 year old he was going to be a big brother. He knew Mommy had a baby in her tummy. The pregnancy was very different than my first. I didn't have morning sickness right away and I felt like I was going to have my period at any moment. I wasn't concerned because I had heard this was a symptom many women feel early in their pregnancies. One night, after we had put our son to bed, Erik and I cuddled up to watch 'The Time Traveler's Wife'. I'd never seen it before and didn't know what to expect. I went to bed that night very emotional. Being newly pregnant, the multiple miscarriages she'd had filled me with worry. I had a sick feeling in my stomach all night.

Misscarried at 12 Weeks on November 17, 2010
Port Orchard, Washington

I had been feeling lousy for nearly two months and hadn't had a normal period since August but I stopped nursing my son in July so it didn't seem too strange ~ it never occurred to me that I could be pregnant given our history of infertility. On October 27, 2010, we decided to take a pregnancy test simply to rule out what we already knew (i.e. that we were not pregnant).

My husband and I were thrilled to be expecting our 2nd child. We had a 6 week scan, which was routine at my OB and saw a strong heartbeat.  Things progressed...I had horrible morning sickness, but told myself it was all worth it.

So my pregnancy was pretty uneventful, besides the horrible morning sickness that I had the first few months. I did everything right, went to all my doctors appointments, ate right, didn't drink or smoke, and I went to breastfeeding classes and a few different prenatal classes just so I would be ready. I was attending university when I found out I was pregnant and I was due in November so I decided I would finish that year off and take the next year off to take care of the baby. So September rolled around, and I was sad not to be in school, but excited because in only a few months my son would arrive.

On the morning of July 9, 2009 I took a pregnancy test. I didn't really think I was pregnant, but I was late, so I figured it couldn't hurt to be sure. Imagine my shock when it was positive! I ran in to tell my husband...we were thrilled and terrified. I took 5 more tests just to be sure!

Kristen
Mom to Zachary Logan
Passed away November 3rd, 2010 at 2 months gestation
Bellingham, Washington

This is 4 weeks from the loss of my baby Zachary Logan. I have searched for resources, for people who have been through something similar and I have grown frustrated with little support for people who have had abdominal pregnancies. So I figure there are others out there who are feeling this way too - so I am writing this for those searching for someone else who has been there.

There are many things I was prepared to fail at in my life, but somehow, becoming a mother never made it onto that list. I had expectations; children were inevitable. Motherhood loomed in my future, a sure thing, something I could reach out and grab when the time was right.

My husband and I had been trying to conceive for sixteen months when we finally got that first positive pregnancy test in early September, 2008.  We knew that starting in my late 30s, it might take a year or longer to conceive, but when the moment finally arrived all the waiting was worth it.  The whole family was elated, as this would be the first grandchild.  Over the next couple of months, we started planning for and dreaming about our new little one.  As we approached the 12 week milestone, we looked forward to a first glimpse of our precious child on ultrasound.  I was relieved that we were almost to the point where miscarriage risk goes down, although I wasn't really worried.  The second trimester!  I was so excited to know that soon I would be showing.  But it was not to be.

Kathryn
Mom to Nathan Alin
Miscarried August 23rd, 2010 at 6 weeks 5 days
Edmonds, Washington

My name is Kathryn, I am 25 years old and I lost my baby Nathan at 6 weeks, 5 days on August 23, 2010. My pregnancy was completely unplanned and unexpected. I got pregnant as a result of a one-night stand with someone I barely knew. It was not my proudest moment and I agonized over the fact that my baby would grow up without a dad. But from the beginning I wanted my baby so much. I knew I was pregnant right away. I started dreaming about a little boy. I was so excited to become a mother. My family was not supportive of the pregnancy because I wasn’t married; it was really hard to have everyone receive my good news as bad.

I always wanted my children close in age. 2 years apart at the most. I was so excited when I got pregnant and found out they were going to be 21 months apart. PERFECT!! Everything was going well, I had early blood work (around 5 weeks) because I was spotting. I had low progesterone with my son so I was started on progesterone just as a precaution. My hCG was doubling like it should so I was reassured that the spotting was normal.
