Brooke
Mom to Victoria Ann
Born March 18, 2010
Philadelphia, PA

In the summer of 2009, I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). The diagnosis had me seek out a fertility specialist to assist me in getting pregnant. I truly thought that infertility would be my biggest hurdle when beginning a family. My husband and I felt very lucky when we quickly got pregnant in October of 2009. I truly couldn’t believe it. My prayers were answered.

We found out we were pregnant with our second child in early January and were overjoyed! The same day I took my positive test, I had a little pink spotting and my heart just dropped…maybe I was having my period after all. I did several more tests, which were all positive, so I thought it was nothing. We started telling our family right away, but then at 6 weeks I started having some faint bleeding on Friday morning. Over the weekend the bleeding continued and it was at this point where I actually admitted that I was probably having a miscarriage. It was so painful and we said a lot of prayers to ask God for strength to help us through it. My husband bought a candle to remember our baby as we hoped this angel was in heaven. Even though I had only had this baby with me for a mere 3 weeks at this point, we had already begun to make room in our lives for this baby and it was truly devastating. On Monday, we went to see the doctor, and the exam didn't tell her much besides that my cervix wasn't open and there wasn't any tissue visible. They did an HcG blood test which she explained would likely not tell us much until we do a second one. I felt in my heart I had lost my baby, but for some reason felt that I needed this information too. I continued to have more blood and my cramping picked up as well. Any bit of hope I had that this may be normal bleeding was gone.

My name is Brandi and ever since I was a little girl I have dreamed of being a mother. I met my soulmate, David, when I was just 10 years old. My cycles have never been regular, so I was fearful that it would take me an eternity to get pregnant. Because of this fear, David and I started trying to conceive before we were even married. Our journey began in September 2006. During this time my father was deathly ill and I knew I was running out of time with him. David and I ended up getting married at the foot of my dying father's hospital bed on January 13th, 2007. My father died 6 weeks later.

I found out I was pregnant on September 8, 2008. I was so delighted. In the past I had three early losses so when my pregnancy hit the 13 week mark I naively let out a sigh of relief, thinking I was past the part of pregnancy where I could lose my child. My pregnancy was rather normal for me, I had really bad morning sickness all the way through but baby was growing normally. At 25 weeks, on January 28th, we found out we were having a little boy! I began hunting and searching for the perfect name for my son. I found the name Giovanni and instantly fell in love with it. I decided then and there I would name my son Giovanni, but I didn’t have any other name picked out.

On June 5th 2009 I found out I was pregnant, and was so very happy. This baby was so wanted and so loved by me for so long. Things went well, until late July 2009 when I found out that I had thyroid cancer and would have to have surgery while pregnant to get it removed. I was told we would do it after I reached my 2nd trimester when it would be the safest for me and the baby. On September 21st just 2 days before I was going to have surgery I went in and had my 20 week ultrasound to see how baby was doing....She was so healthy and perfect, and a girl!!! I couldn't have been happier.

I found out I was pregnant on Valentine's day 2008. I remember it just like it was yesterday. My husband, Derrick, and I went to Walgreens and I got a digital test. My last period had been on January 4th and I knew I was late. I walked out of the bathroom snapping the lid back on the test and put it on some papers in the kitchen while cleaning up. After a couple minutes I glanced over at it...Pregnant! I couldn't believe it. For some reason I had a sneaking suspicion that I wouldn't be able to get pregnant, which was crazy because my cycles had always been fairly normal and I had no reason to believe that I wouldn't be able to. It was just one of those things. I never wanted anything more than to be a mother and for some reason because I wanted it so much, I knew it wouldn't come easy. I guess I was right in a way. I gave birth to our first born, a daughter, Joslyn, at 22 weeks.

Most of our story started in July of 2008. My husband of almost 2 years at that time and I decided we wanted to start our family. I saw my first positive pregnancy test on October 15th, 2008. We were thrilled, and it only took us 3 months of trying. Our due date was June 18th, a perfect time of year to be off for 3 months with a brand new baby.

I woke up with a funny feeling in my stomach. It was 5:45am on June 18th, our baby boy's due date.  My stomach felt like it was a giant rubber band  being stretched for 10-15 seconds. It went away and I tried to get back to sleep. 10 minutes later another one hit. I knew instantly these weren't Braxton Hicks contractions, but the real deal. I got up, went to the bathroom (it felt like I couldnt' stop pooping, small wonder as my body was cleaning itself out in preparation for baby's arrival) and sat there for another cycle and knew I wouldn't make it back to bed any time soon. At 6:30 I woke up my husband telling him "I think its time. He's trying to come out." Hubby went back to sleep and I headed back to the bathroom to poop and get through another contraction. At 6:43 I sent my mom and mother-in-law a text telling them what was up. My mother-in-law was the only one to get it as my phone ran out of credit after I sent it. I made my way downstairs to our laundry room toilet so I could be by the house phone incase things took a wrong turn. This was truly an instinct that I'm glad I acted on.

We had given up.

After a very quick and painless conception/pregnancy/delivery of our son, and dealing with secondary infertility and all that entails for 4 years, we had chosen to thank God for our son and stop longing for more.

November 22, 2007 (Thanksgiving that year) started out to be the best day of my life and ended as one of the worst. I woke up excited to get my day started. I was cooking thanksgiving dinner for the first time for my new husband. We had been married for over 8 months. I was on the phone with my mother asking how to make the turkey and the stuffing when all the sudden I sneezed. Didn’t think anything of it since I have allergies and sneeze all the time. But this sneeze was different, after I sneezed my entire left side of my body started hurting like it went numb. I told my mom something was wrong. I might have pulled a muscle when I sneezed. She started to worry and told me to wake up my husband to take me to the hospital. I said I’ll be fine, this has happened before, I just sneezed too hard. So I hung up the phone and went to get up and I couldn’t. My left side was hurting so bad. So I thought “ok, just sit here for another minute and then I will be fine” so I sat back and tried to lean on my side, it made it worse. Then I started getting light headed and my stomach was hurting. So at this time I knew something was wrong. So I started yelling for my husband. He woke up and asked what was wrong so I told him I think I need to go to the hospital something is wrong. So he got dressed and took me. This is when my awesome day turned into my biggest nightmare.

We had been trying for nearly a year when I saw that positive pregnancy test. I had spotting in the first trimester and we worried about having a miscarriage, but our little bean grew and grew. Since I  am a carrier of Fragile X and have a small chance of passing it down, we had a CVS done at 12 weeks. We found out to our delight that we were carrying a girl and that she was completely healthy. After that 3 month mark, we finally shared our happy news with our extended families, the rest of our friends, and our coworkers. My belly grew and we started planning for our little girl.

February 15th 2009, my boyfriend and I found out we were pregnant. I took 4 pregnancy tests just to be sure. I had only been off of the pill for less them a month so I couldn't believe it. I knew from the start that it was a boy. Even though others thought I was crazy, there was no way to convince me other wise, June 5th we found out I was infact correct. We were going to have a boy and his name was going to be Jackson. That is my maiden name and I always swore that I would name my son that. I had a great pregnancy. The bigger my belly got the happier I was. My boyfriend and I spent 9 months reading to my belly and feeling him move and kick.

On January 10th, 2008 I had just turned 24 weeks pregnant with our twins.  My husband and I were in shock as I went into preterm labor for reasons unknown.  The labor was fast and unexpected and I ultimately had our TWINS at home.  Our daughter Kaleigh was born first and breach with no medical assistance.  She wasn't able to breathe as well as she should but managed to survive the trip to the hospital.  Our son Braden was born second and he was born head first with the assistance of the EMT's.

We were a little shocked when we found out we were going to have another baby after we sold our house in about 4 days and had to move in with my parents until our new home was built. After we got through the initial shock we were very excited to be adding to our family since we wanted another child anyways. My other children, Carley and Parker, were very excited to have a baby on the way.

On August 14, 2009 my husband and I found out that we were expecting our first child.  I was having a very easy pregnancy and loving every minute of it. At 20 weeks we found out that we were having a little boy. He was very stubborn and the ultrasound tech couldn’t get all of his measurements so we had to schedule another ultrasound at 28 weeks.  We found out that my umbilical cord was no longer providing nutrients to the baby. After a few more ultrasounds it was decided it the baby needed to come out because the cord also was wrapped around his neck twice. I was rushed into the OR for an emergency c/s. At 4:44pm on February 1st the operating room was silent as our baby boy was delivered. The nurses had to perform CPR and were able to stabilize him. We chose not to name him until he was born so for a few hours he was known as baby boy. Once I finally got to meet him in the NICU, we named our little prince Aidan Christopher.

I have been married to the man of my dreams since December 10, 2005.  We met on a blind date and had a whirl wind romance.  We married six months after that fist date.  I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 18.  I told Ken before we got married that we may never have kids of our own.  But, we started trying to conceive right away.  After four years of fertility meds and nothing we opted for adoption.  We were working our way through all the courses and paperwork when in September of 2009 I took a pregnancy test that would forever change our lives.  I was so excited to be pregnant.  I never thought I would ever carry my own. Ken was overjoyed.  We called all our family right away.  I had an early ultrasound done because I could not remember when my last period was.  I was 7 weeks and 5 days pregnant.  And, the journey began.

Mom to Ayden Brooks Jones
April 27, 2009 - August 25, 2009

On April 26, my birthday, I woke up knowing that this time, the contractions were real. I was so excited! I had had the perfect pregnancy….healthy, on track, never a complication. And to top it all off, Ayden was coming on my birthday….or so we thought. All day, I waited for the contractions to get stronger, but it wasn’t until late that night when we would finally get into the hospital. Did I mention we were excited? I couldn’t tell you what one of those contractions felt like….all I cared about was that we were going to meet our little boy in a matter of hours. After 36 hours of labor, Ayden came on April 27th. He decided he needed a day all of his own. It will forever be the happiest day of my life.

Our family’s story began on May 8, 2004, the day Nathan and I promised to love and cherish each other for the rest of our lives.  As I made my vows to him, I hadn’t the faintest idea how our lives would change just over five years later through the birth of our daughter, Madelyn.  In fact, neither of us envisioned ourselves as the “having babies” type.  Our plan was to work hard, retire early, and enjoy the extra money we wouldn’t be spending on things like daycare, diapers, and college funds.

When we found out we were pregnant with our 3rd baby we were so excited. The pregnancy was a rough one and I could tell something wasn't quite right. This baby didn't move around nearly as much as my previous 2. We went in for our ultrasound at 19 weeks to check on the baby and to find out the gender. The tech told us we were having another little boy and that all looked well and that my doctor would be in touch.

I found out I was pregnant in October 2009.  It was a major shock! I was on the pill. How could I be pregnant? I knew I had to call my OB immediately. I suffer from chronic migraines and was on quite a bit of medication at the time.  He fit me in two days later and it was official.  We were having a baby!  To say we were over the moon is an understatement.
