I found out I was pregnant with baby #3 the weekend before Thanksgiving 2009. We were so excited. We had been trying for 3 months. 2 days later I started spotting, then bleeding outright. We lost our baby 2 days before Thanksgiving. I was absolutely devastated. After a couple of weeks I managed to convince myself maybe I hadn't really been pregnant. That maybe the test was wrong.

I always heard people talking about problems getting pregnant and coming across discussion forums of women having trouble conceiving.  I never thought in my wildest dream that one day I would be posting on a forum about my fertility.  I guess that’s why they say never say never.  My husband and I were just shy of our first year wedding anniversary when we decided we were going to start trying for our first child.  We were so excited.

My husband and I had spent a year trying unsuccessfully to get pregnant. A trip to the doctors confirmed one of our greatest fears, that we might never conceive. We decided that rather than give in and give up, we’d fight for the one thing we wanted most- to be parents. And so we did.

I was first diagnosed with endometriosis three years ago after having a huge cyst rupture. I'd had the symptoms for years without even realizing it could be something else other than a really bad menstrual cycle.  I was told my chance of conceiving was about 7%, and that the disease progressed with time. I'd always wanted a big family, with several children, so I took the news hard. Luckily for me I was engaged to be married in a month, so my now husband and I decided to start trying right away. God blessed us with a healthy son nine months later.

There are many things I was prepared to fail at in my life, but somehow, becoming a mother never made it onto that list. I had expectations; children were inevitable. Motherhood loomed in my future, a sure thing, something I could reach out and grab when the time was right.

My husband and I had been trying to conceive for sixteen months when we finally got that first positive pregnancy test in early September, 2008.  We knew that starting in my late 30s, it might take a year or longer to conceive, but when the moment finally arrived all the waiting was worth it.  The whole family was elated, as this would be the first grandchild.  Over the next couple of months, we started planning for and dreaming about our new little one.  As we approached the 12 week milestone, we looked forward to a first glimpse of our precious child on ultrasound.  I was relieved that we were almost to the point where miscarriage risk goes down, although I wasn't really worried.  The second trimester!  I was so excited to know that soon I would be showing.  But it was not to be.

We were elated to find out we were pregnant after our first try in August of 2009. Our first ultrasound was scheduled when we should have been 6.5 weeks. Or, so we thought. The baby only measured 5 weeks, but all looked good. We were told our dates were probably off, even though I knew that wasn't possible. But, what did I know? I'd never had an ultrasound that early and maybe babies grew at different rates. We were told things were fine and to come back in 10 days.

The second scan showed the baby had grown, but the tech wouldn't tell us anything else. She told us my doctor would tell me the details. When I went in for my second routine pregnancy exam, my OB casually told me the baby died and we needed to schedule a D&C. I was shocked. I demanded another ultrasound. It confirmed our diagnosis. It was awful. I had my D&C when the baby should have been 8.5 weeks. I was told it would not happen again and that my body just wasn't ready to be pregnant again. We did not have the "products of conception" tested as it was "just a fluke.

On January 5th, 2010, at 10 weeks 2 days pregnant I went to the doctor for my first appointment. First we went over everything that would happen throughout the pregnancy such as when ultrasounds and blood work would be. After going over all of this, and my medical history, they led me to the ultrasound room. Everything was so exciting. I couldn’t wait to finally see my little nugget growing inside of me.  Part of me became concerned when the doctor got quiet, but I tried to dismiss it. When she told me that she couldn’t find a heart beat I was shocked and confused. “What does this mean?” I asked, tears welling in my eyes. She explained that I had had a miscarriage. For the first time I learned what a missed miscarriage was. I didn’t understand how that could happen. I thought that having a miscarriage meant you bled and lost the baby. I had no idea something could go wrong and the baby could die with little or no signs. “Her” heart had stopped beating and she had stopped growing at 9 weeks 1 day.

I've wanted a family basically since I was younger, like most women do. It starts with meeting a boy, then falling in love, getting married, and then dreaming of how big your family will be. We married December 2001 and talked about how many children we most likely would have. I said 2-3, he said 3-5... so we decided 3 was a good number. Life has had different plans.

Nick and I had been happily married for nine months, when we decided that children were our next step to becoming a family. So in August of 2009, we started trying to conceive and lucky for us we were immediately pregnant. I had never even thought about miscarriage. My friends had never talked about it and I thought, it can never happen to me. Well I was wrong. I started having brown spotting about a week later after getting our BFP and went to a festival five hours away only to start bleeding heavily. That night I stood in the shower crying and crying over again.

In spring of 2009 after 7 months of TTC my husband and I were finally blessed with a baby. We were elated to be expecting our first baby. We knew pregnancy would be complicated due to my preexisting diabetes. My OB was on top of it and worked hard getting my insurance to approve a state funded program for pregnant diabetics to control my blood sugars as well as diet.

I got married in 2008 to a wonderful man.  Six months later, we decided to start trying for a baby, since I wanted to get pregnant before I turned thirty.  That was a while ago.  I have turned thirty a few times since. And got pregnant a few times since.  I have been pregnant THREE TIMES THIS YEAR and it is only September.  Still have a few more months to go. I am currently recovering from transabdominal cerclage, which I have had done on September 28, 2010.

Ever since I was a young girl, I can remember how much I couldn’t wait to have a child and be a “mommy”. I remember my mom telling me how I was such a good caregiver to my younger siblings. My mom always told me, “you’re going to be a great mother one day”.

My husband and I had been married for 6 years when we felt it was finally the time to start trying for a baby.  I was concerned that it would take us a while to conceive since my cycles were always screwy.  Boy was I surprised when in Jan 2005, just after one month of trying I received a positive pregnancy test.

My husband and I had been married for four years.  We had dodged questions for years of "when are you guys going to have kids?!".  We were just never ready.  We had always taken the right precautions to prevent pregnancy, and knew that when the time was right, we would start trying for a baby.  That time was our fourth wedding anniversary.  To our complete surprise, we learned we were pregnant right away.  We were so excited! I never believed in a million years it would happen on the first try.  We shared the news with friends and family, and carried on day to day with a huge smile on our faces.

My husband Justin and I got married in August of 2008, and we were so happy to start our life together! In January of 2009, Justin decided to join the Army, and I couldn't have been more proud of him. He went off to Basic Training, followed by 4 months of technical schooling. During his time at school, I spent my weekends making the 4 hour drive to visit and to try to start our family. We did the best we were able to with having no control of our schedule! In September of 2010 we moved to our first duty station - Fort Hood, Texas. It was the start of a new chapter for us, and we were so ready for whatever came our way.

Four First Trimester Miscarriages

I got my first positive pregnancy test in January of 2009, two days after my birthday. My husband and I were not trying to get pregnant, but not being overly diligent about preventing it either. I was 26 and he was 29, and we were planning to wait another year or two to start trying, but when the test came back positive, we were happy and relieved to not be going through the fertility problems a couple people we know were going through. I lost that pregnancy at 7 weeks, in February. I was willing to chalk it up to paying my statistical dues.

On June 5th 2009 I found out I was pregnant, and was so very happy. This baby was so wanted and so loved by me for so long. Things went well, until late July 2009 when I found out that I had thyroid cancer and would have to have surgery while pregnant to get it removed. I was told we would do it after I reached my 2nd trimester when it would be the safest for me and the baby. On September 21st just 2 days before I was going to have surgery I went in and had my 20 week ultrasound to see how baby was doing....She was so healthy and perfect, and a girl!!! I couldn't have been happier.
